Violent crimes: 2 arrested in Arkansas

A man and a woman in Hot Springs have been placed under arrest as part of an ongoing homicide investigation, according to local sources. Arkansas authorities arrested the duo following the discovery of a deceased man police believe was the victim of foul play. As with most violent crimes, this case is under stringent investigation as of this report.

According to police in Hot Springs, a man's body was found on Oct. 23 in a cemetery by a local man who was walking his dog when he made the grisly discovery. The 31-year-old victim was later identified by police, prompting an investigation into the cause of his death. While police have not made details public at this time, what they found was enough for them to suspect he had been murdered.

Local police coordinated with several other law enforcement agencies in the course of their investigation, including Arkansas State Police and the U.S. Marshals. Their investigation led to the arrest of two individuals, a 42-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. The man is facing charges of murder in the first degree and hindering apprehension or prosecution, while the woman faces only the latter two charges. They are both currently awaiting trial at a local detention center. Police say further arrests may be forthcoming.

Too little information has been made public by Arkansas authorities at this time to accurately guess how this case will play out. In cases of violent crimes, the criminal penalty is often quite high, resulting in extended jail time if the individual charged is found guilty. However, the burden of proof remains to be on the prosecution, and both individuals' defense representation will carefully study the evidence presented by the state to determine whether it is admissible in a court setting.
