Violent crimes: 2 Arkansas women face attempted murder charges

Two women in Little Rock have been charged with attempted capital murder following an alleged attack on New Year's Day. Police in Sherwood, Arkansas, arrested the two women, and they are now being held at Pulaski County Jail in advance of a trial date. As with most violent crimes, this incident is being thoroughly investigated by local police.

According to the limited details available, a 21-year-old man came to police on Jan. 1 saying he had been attacked by two women armed with weapons he could not identify. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment for his injuries, which were not described in the report. His current condition is unknown, but it has been confirmed that he did not succumb to his injuries.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of two women, aged 21 and 24 respectively. On Jan. 13, police officers encountered the duo in a vehicle during a routine traffic stop. Upon realizing there were warrants out for their arrest, officers on the scene took the two women into custody and charged them with attempted murder as well as first-degree domestic battery. So far, no court date has been announced.

Violent crimes can happen for a variety of reasons, not all of them premeditated, but the criminal penalties for attempted murder are still very serious for those facing the charges. It is the province of Arkansas prosecutors to prove that the women were involved in the attack, and that they intended to kill the victim, if they are to win a conviction in this case. In the interim, each woman will be separately represented by a defense attorney who will work to build a comprehensive case refuting the charges in court.
