A former middleweight boxing champion could be facing serious jail time following accusations of assault. Jermain Taylor is currently booked into Pulaski County Jail in Little Rock, Arkansas, after he was accused of committing violent crimes. So far, he does not appear to be represented by an attorney.

Very little information is available pertaining to the alleged incident, but police in Little Rock have confirmed that they were called to his residence on the afternoon of Aug. 29 after neighbors reported a disturbance. The details of the police action at the 40-year-old boxer’s home were not included in this report. However, police say they arrested the man on site after charging him with third-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault on a household or family member. The person who was allegedly attacked was not named in the report.

This is not the first time Taylor has been accused of violent crimes. Prosecutors recently dropped charges against him after he allegedly assaulted another woman by biting her and threatening her life. Of course, these earlier allegations cannot legally play a role in this current case, for which a trial date has not yet been set.

It will be very important for Taylor to seek out representation by a criminal defense attorney before the trial process begins. Violent crimes of this nature can carry a heavy sentence here in Arkansas, which could have negative ramifications on the man’s future career. His attorney will be in a position to review the facts of the case, including details omitted from this report, as part of building a strong defense for the upcoming court case.
