2 charged with drug crimes in Arkansas

Two people have been taken into custody, and an infant is now under the care of the Department of Homeland Security following a drug bust in Sebastian County. Officers in Fort Smith, Arkansas, investigated a home thought to be the location of drug crimes on Feb. 7. One man and a teenage girl were both arrested and charged in the incident, but no court dates have been announced.

According to the official report, police in Fort Smith raided the home where the man and the girl resided with their infant child. Police say they found a variety of drugs in the home, including an ounce of methamphetamine, two ounces of ecstasy and a pound of marijuana. Police say they also found two firearms inside the home, though it was not clear whether they were legally owned.

The man was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of firearms, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of parole and a first degree charge of endangering the welfare of a minor. The girl found on the scene was also charged with the same violations, but she will be charged as a minor. The child was remanded to DHS custody as part of the investigation.

Drug crimes of this severity carry heavy penalties here in Arkansas, even for someone charged as a minor. The couple could face fines and even jail time if found guilty, not to mention likely losing custody of their child. However, both parties will be represented by criminal defense attorneys when they appear in court. These attorneys will work to establish their innocence in all charges filed against them.
