Daycare owners accused of drug crimes in Arkansas

Arkansas police say they received a call to conduct a welfare check at a particular residence on a recent Sunday. The officers who were dispatched to the location wound up making two arrests. The man and woman who were taken into custody are now facing charges for drug crimes.

The residence in question was used to operate a children's day care center. The two people who were arrested were the operators of the child care facility. It was a business they ran together from their home. Upon entering the house, police say the saw marijuana plants. They also claimed to have found at least 13 harvested plants, close to 20 firearms and more than $30,000 in cash.

The responding officers transported the accused to a county jail. They are charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drugs and firearms and other offenses as well. Having large amounts of cash is no proof that a crime has been committed; prosecutors will have to prove their case and each defendant will have an opportunity to present a defense. The penalties under conviction for a drug crime that somehow endangered children may be more severe that similar incidents that placed no children at risk.

In drug crimes cases where children are involved, Arkansas prosecutors tend to be quite aggressive in their quests to seek convictions. Such situations are highly stressful for most defendants. However, there is no need to go it alone in court because experienced legal representation may be requested by those who stand accused.
