Arkansas authorities arrest 1 for alleged drug crimes

A search of a home in central Arkansas has resulted in an arrest. Arkansas authorities have reported that some 10 pounds of what is believed to be marijuana was found in a residence in Pine Bluff. The homeowner was arrested and charged with drug crimes, but there is no word on whether he has retained criminal defense counsel at this time.

According to the report filed by Pine Bluff police, the search was conducted in the morning on Nov. 19 at a home on Shirley Street. The cause for the search was not articulated in the report, but it has been confirmed that the home was raided by local police forces. Police say they found some 10 pounds of the illicit substance, in addition to some $1,200 in cash and two shotguns.

The homeowner, a 29-year-old male, was arrested following the search, which took place around 5:45 p.m. The man in question was charged with possession of a firearm by a certain person, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drugs and a firearm. The man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, and was held against $50,000 bond.

Of course, it will be up to Arkansas prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the man is guilty of the drug crimes charged. In the meantime, his criminal defense representation will carefully review the case to assess whether he was treated fairly and in accordance with his constitutional rights throughout the search of his home, as well as his arrest. Any evidence the prosecution wishes to present in court is subject to challenge by the defense.
